SQUIRREL!

When I was little (10 and younger), I couldn’t wait to finish school and play outside! My sisters and I would invent all kinds of stories about hiding in a castle, visiting new worlds, and escaping bad guys. Sometimes, though, our imagination was focused on the creatures around our house. We would watch a bird and imagine that it was searching frantically for its mate. Or that a wandering cat was traveling through the neighborhood in search of its family on the other side of the city. The book that I’m reading right now reminds me of this. It is called Flora and Ulysses, by Kate DiCamillo, the same author who wrote The Tale of Despereaux.

What stirs your imagination? I encourage you to stop and take thirty minutes to foster this and to remind yourself what it feels like to imagine like a kid again!
